Water infrastructure buckles under urban pressure

Three major water mains have bursted across the Los Angeles region in the last two months. One flooded UCLA's campus in July and destroyed more than 300 cars in a parking garage. Another shut down West Hollywood's Sunset Strip in late September. Still, the ramifications of smaller more common breaks across the cities 7,000-foot network of pipes may be more menacing in the future.
