Child star and diplomat Shirley Temple Black dies at the age of 85

For three years in the 1930’s, Shirley Temple Black was cinema's most popular star as the top US box office draw. Her smiling face and endearing performances lifted the spirits of many during the depression. She retired from show business at the age of 21 and eventually became a diplomat for the United States, getting appointed by richard nixon to the united nations delegation. She also served as US ambassador to Ghana and as chief of protocol and ambassador to Czechoslovakia. Temple Black died last night in her home at the age of eighty five.
