Mayor Eric Garcetti announced funding to help tackle the growing number of domestic violence incidents in Los Angeles. The grants, which were contributed by the Department of Justice and Verizon, are aimed at training LAPD officers and Domestic Abuse Response Teams (DART) to better assist victims of abuse.

The mayor also announced the city's first program to deal with the growing problem of elder abuse, or violence towards senior citizens.

The Department of Justice contributed $900,000 while Verizon donated $200,00 to help the cause.
