Immigrants were joined by representatives of the Los Angeles Federation of Labor and United Long Term Care Workers Union to protest high deportation rates in downtown Los Angeles this morning.

The message of the day was dignity. Protestors urged the Obama administration and Congress to lower deportation rates, which have reached an all time high. Under the Obama administration 1.6 million immigrants were deported between 2009 and 2012.

By contrast, under the Bush administration 2 million people were deported in 8 years.

Many immigrants spoke of their personal workplace cruelty experiences, as well as their fears of deportations. They are all urging people to join them on May first in downtown Los Angeles for international worker's day. They will March in downtown for immigration and deportation reform.
