Forty-seven schools in the Los Angeles Unifed School District received iPads in August. But the project has not been a seamless one.

Students found a way around security and firewalls and browsed the Internet freely. There is also the issue of students being able to take the iPads home. And no solution has been presented on how to pay these devices. LAUSD's budget is $50 million dollars.

When the Los Angeles Board of Education met, they discussed a new issue: Are iPads a panacea for all students in the district? Some broad members think laptops are better suited to meet the needs of high schools students.
