Dozens of social workers represented by the Service Employees International Union Local 721 group rallied today in Downtown LA to call for lower caseloads.

The SEIU LA Count social workers handle 40 to 50 children at a time, which is three times the amount of children that federal standards allow.

While Department of Children and Family Services director Phillip Browning recognizes the need for more workers, the county cut off contract negotiations with the SEIU last week.

As a result, SEIU workers filed a court order to take their case to superior court.
