Emmanuel Martinez

Emmanuel Martinez is a second-year graduate student in the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. He is a native of Fresno, Calif. and earned his B.A. in literary journalism from the University of California, Irvine in 2011.

Emmanuel graduated from UCI wanting to write feature stories and entered USC concentrating on print journalism. But since then, his interest and concentration have morphed. Now, he is immersed in radio and data journalism and hopes to marry the both of them. He believes the patterns and outliers found in databases are stories waiting to be told. Numbers tell stories. And one day, he wishes to use radio to broadcast the stories found within the zeros and ones.

When Emmanuel is not looking for stories or diving into large databases, he is either exploring the diverse cultures and neighborhoods of Los Angeles, watching a thought-provoking movie or documentary, or reading a book. His favorites include: Strength in What Remains, Zeitoun, Friday Night Lights, East of Eden, All the King’s Men and countless others.
