Emo music used to be big almost a decade ago, but now it's got a bad rap. The bands, the fashion, everything associated with the movement has gotten to be something of a dirty word.

Overcoming that stereotype while still playing similar-sounding music and staying true to your influences isn't an easy thing to do, but TTNG (formerly This Town Needs Guns) are making it work.

We spoke with the group at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana and asked for their take on the genre revival that emo music is seemingly experiencing, and how math rock is a part of that.
