Government reopens after shutdown and the aftermath

Although most passport offices were open during the government shutdown across the country, things were slow Thursday morning when Joanna Jose went to apply for a passport for her one-month-old son. Things have also been slow at businesses in Westwood, just a couple blocks away from the Wilshire Federal Building.

But now that the shutdown is over as of Wednesday, the restaurant business near the federal building, and business for national parks should be picking up.

Joshua Tree National Park expects all 92 of it's furloughed employees to come back to work within the next few days. There's a lot to do for the returning workers, especially with the start of the busy season for the park.
