"12 years a Slave" is a riveting film that captures the harsh realities of American slavery. The movie captures the life of a free born man Solomon Northup from Washington who is later kidnapped and forced into slavery in New Orleans. 

Solomon fights hard to regain his freedom, but his actions brought him more horror than he could bare. The movie shows that no matter who is wrong or right, back in that place and time there was only one side to every story.

Director Steve McQueen gives a shocking reminder throughout the film about the realities of slavery.
