Families from a Hawthorne neighborhood will not be able to return to their homes for up to five days, even though they have been away already for a week. A well that burst and started leaking water and methane gas last week forced 37 households from their residences last Friday night, and officials have been working to plug it up.

In the meantime Keisa Curley and her family of four live at the Ramada Inn on Golden State Water Company's dime, until they can go back.

"The fire department, it was up to them to evacuate us," recounts Curley. "Because they said that we can be cooking. And if they got into our houses it can explode, or something can catch on fire. So i was just happy to get up out of there."

There's a chance that residents may move in sooner than five days, as long as the plug on the well and gas readings stay low.
