With concussions from youth sports more prevalent than ever, coaches in South LA high schools are taking steps to keep injured athletes off the field even when players want to keep playing. James Barahona is a West Adams prepratory high school football player who recently experienced a concussion. Even though he does feel susceptible to injuries, it does not stop him from playing and loving football. Jose Chavez on the other hand, feels that he would rather be safe than sorry. Coach Nelson Beltran, athletic director William Stahura and Dr. Samia Rafeedie all agree that safety and taking precautionary measures are vital in high school sports.
