U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder resigns

Attorney General Eric Holder, the first African-American to hold the post, announced his resignation Thursday.  

Holder, one of the longest-serving members of the Obama administration, has been in office since 2009. In recent months, Holder has been on the front line of high-profile racial incidents. He even visited Ferguson after Michael Brown was shot. 

However, Holder’s tenure has been controversial and people's reactions to his resignation are mixed.

Holder has been a strong liberal voice in the Obama Administration and has remained a close ally to the President, who praised him today. 

Holder will remain in office until a successor is chosen.
