Tomorrow is the world-wide celebration of GIS Day. The day is an annual event meant to bring awareness to geographic information systems. Dr. Darren Runddell, Assistant Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Spatial Sciences Institute here at USC, has teamed up with his students to create a mapping balloon. The roughly 10-foot (in diameter) weather balloon has a GoPro camera attached to it and will demonstrate the capabilities of aerial mapping technology. The team will launch the balloon here on campus tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Alumni Park. Whether you are able to attend the event or not, you can follow the updates on Twitter using the hashtag- #USCGISDAY.
