With the death toll expected to reach numbers as high as 10,000, the Philippines has declared a state of national calamity following the destruction of Super-Typhoon Haiyan. Alex Montances, campaigns coordinator at the Filipino Migrant Center and a leader of the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns, talks to us about his family that was in the hard-hit city of Tacloban at the time of the natural disaster. Montances explains to us that aside from food, water and shelter, the devastated country needs monetary aid more than supplies.
