Local water officials are warning Southern Califonians to cut back on water usage since the state is facing the third year of drought. Some residents are taking the initiative to implement water conserving tactics in their yards. Mark Vallianatos installed a system in his yard to save water two years ago. Compared to his neighbors' water bills, Vallianatos says his is below the average. He has not recouped his initial cost, but in the long run, he thinks it will be cost-effective to reduce water waste. Landscape designer, Paul Robins, says, however, Vallianatos is not like most homeowners who are using too much water in their yards. Some water saving measures include growing draught resistant plants, reducing how much you water your lawn and keeping barrels to catch rain water.
