Government shutdown affects local recreation area

Covering over 240 square miles, the Santa Monica Mountain Recreation Area is closed due to the government shutdown. The popular So Cal destination was broken into over the weekend. Locks that were placed on gates last week were cut at two trail entrances. Park rangers are asking people to stay out of the park becuase they do not have the personnel to insure visitors safety. The recreation area's website, Twitter and Facebook accounts are inactive due to the shutdown. Hear more about the issue.
