Six-hundred thousand Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in California are now eligible for affordable health insurance. The problem is that many don't know about their options.

This is where the Los Angeles branch of Asian Americans Advancing Justice steps in. They gathered Tuesday to announce their commitment to educate and inform the Asian American community about health insurance, and their goal to inspire at least 40,000 people to sign up.

Advancing Justice LA vows to make the health insurance application process as easy as possible. They have provided training for Certified Health Educators and Certified Enrollment Counselors to educate Asian Americans and different insurance plans.

California is one of 18 states that opened health insurance enrollment today. California is home to one third of the country's Asian American and Pacific Islander population. If eligible Asian Americans applu for the plan of their choice before December 15th, their health care can go into effect by the New Year.
