Detours wanted to find people who have one thing that they do really, really well. Reporter Holly Thompson interviewed Mike Meanstreetz, a drummer in an experimental band called PRESENT. When it comes to his drumming, Mike has a long list of influences: 20th Century classical, Death Metal, Sound art, Turkish, Video Game, Anarcho Punk music. It’s a mouthful, and Mike has a lot to say when it comes to his philosophy, art and music. For him, these subjects are intimately connected. The secret to his art form starts with a deviation on a beat.
