Who is Andy Enfield?  He is a 43-year-old gym rat who led the 15th seed Florida Gulf Coast Eagles to the Sweet 16 in his second season as an NCAA Head Coach. The man who seemingly came out of nowhere caught the eye of USC Athletic Director Pat Haden.

“We think we’ve got a dynamic guy who’s got a very interesting brand of basketball offensively and defensively. It’s gonna be exciting it’s going to attract fans and recruits were just thrilled to have Andy as a Trojan,” Pat Haden said.

O.C. Register Trojans Beat Writer Rich Hammond says Enfield took everyone by surprise. “Become a name over the last couple of weeks, you talk about a meteoric rise in the coaching world I can’t remember a bigger one in such a short period of time,” Hammond said.

Enfield’s whole life has been a success story from his personal basketball career, marriage with a supermodel wife and even some daring business ventures make him unique. “He is somebody who went into private business, in healthcare software of all things, so he is not just a basketball guy,” Hammond said.

USC Basketball has long played in the shadow of cross-town rival UCLA, who hired Steve Alford from New Mexico on Saturday. The Trojans coaching splash could pay huge dividends in the near future. Enfield travels from sunny South Beach to South Los Angeles; an area that Former USC Basketball Star David Blu believes is a natural fit for the confident coach.

“That’s LA you have to have some flash, some swag, confidence and you have to electrify the audience.”

In a town that thrives on its star power, Blu believes Enfield’s personal success on and off the court will motivate his players. “I think he is a good choice to bridge the coach, player gap and possibly turn things around here at USC,” Blu said.

Enfield will now have to tackle the task of luring in the next generation of west coast prospects. “They kinda know him from watching him out on CBS for the last couple of weeks but he doesn’t have connections with High School and AAU Coaches…By far going to be his biggest challenge over the next couple of months,” Hammond said.

Enfield will make his official debut at tomorrow news conference from USC’s Galen Center.
