Professor Stacy L. Smith discusses status of women in media on International Women's Day

Today marks the 100th celebration of International Women's day, honoring women's achievement in society politically, socially, and economically across the globe. To better understand women's role in the media, I spoke with communication scholar and USC Annenberg Professor Stacy L. Smith about her research on women working in front of the camera and behind the scenes in popular films and television shows.
Although a demonstrated imbalance still exists in the ratio of men to women working in front of the camera and behind the scenes in popular TV and films, Dr. Smith says that raising awareness about the dearth of females can help improve statistics.
