Election day is long over, but the tight race for state attorney general carries on.

So far, Republican candidate Steve Cooley has 46.1 percent of the votes. Democratic candidate Kamala Harris follows closely behind with 45.6 percent.

Brian Broca is the campaign manager for Harris. He says they are keeping a watchful eye, but they are not just waiting around for the results.

His team sent out 1,500 volunteers to county registrar offices all around the state to make sure that every vote is counted.

Broca says the team still has faith.

"We're very optimistic," Broca said.

Cooley's office could not be reached as of press time.

The Los Angeles County Registrar's Office says the next update will be released soon, but it will be a while before the final results are in.

The office has to turn in its results by the end of November. But Maria Ventura, a spokesperson for the office, says it will still have about 300,000 ballots to count from Los Angeles County alone.

In the state, more than 1,000,000,000 ballots have yet to be counted. The Secretary of State has until Dec. 10 to certify election results. It looks like Californians are in this for the long haul, leaving Harris and Cooley waiting.
