The City of Los Angeles is teaming up with community organizations to participate in the Great American Cleanup. It is the largest volunteer community improvement program in the country and is sponsored by President Bush. Last year 2.8 million people volunteered nationwide. The LA cleanup is being done in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation so the majority of the cleanup will focus on interstates and other major roadways even though litter and graffiti is a huge problem in poor neighborhoods.
