As the price of gold soars, gold theft is rising in South Los Angeles.

Gold jumped to a record of over $1,900 an ounce in august. John parker, who is on the chair of South Central Neighborhood Council says that has motivated more robberies.

Parker says cutbacks have made people desperate to get money any way that they can.

There have been a number of reports in Inglewood and LA County of criminals stealing gold chains off the necks of people, targeting women.

Sergeant Scott Collins at the Inglewood police department says that people should protect themselves.
