Census Day Newborns Welcomed and Counted

Babies born today on Census Day between midnight and 11:59 p.m. will be the last to be considered in the 2010 Census. City Councilman Jose Huizar and Regional Director of the U.S. Census Bureau James Christy visited White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles today to raise awareness of the importance of children in this years census.
Christy welcomed one baby born today. He was wearing a smile and a onesie saying, I Count.
(James Christy) Babies born tomorrow will not be counted in the 2010 Census, but they will experience the results and the decisions made on the 2010 census count for the next decade. And the first ten years of a childs life are extremely important, there are so many decisions made and things that happen, that it is really important that decisions made about their future are based on the best information. So we want babies to be counted, but we want everybody to be counted. Babies are a lot of fun and theyre cute and theyre wonderful, but everybody in the census counts.
Over one million children under ten were left uncounted in 2000s census because parents often forget to include their kids. Children are the most undercounted group in any United States census.
