Journalism Professor Joe Saltzman's has a new book out called Heroes and Scoundrels: The Image of the Journalist in Pop Culture. This book is a product of the research Saltzman directs for the Norman Lear Center. He and his co-author, Matthew C. Ehrlich, evaluated books, comics, movies, television and even plays among other publications to learn about different perceptions of journalists on society. Saltzman stresses that the portrayal of journalists can significantly alter the public's willingness to trust a newsource and thus affect democracy itself.
