All immigrants to this country face uncertainty. The one thing they can usually rely on is having an embassy or consulate.  

But Kurdish people come from an ethnic homeland with no defined borders, so there's no embassy for them in the United States or anywhere else. And they have no cultural center or neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Restaurant owner and chef Luqman Barwari is changing that. With Niroj Kurdish Cuisine in Agoura Hills, he’s created his own informal embassy, one aimed at keeping his people connected and his culture alive. But it’s not always easy.
