Ukraine recently selected “The Guide” for the Oscars’ best foreign film category. The filmmaker Oles Sanin, accompanied by co-writer Paul Wolansky, talked about this production with Professor Mark Jonathan Harris at the School of Cinematic Arts.

The director highlighted the historic perspective behind the blind minstrels, called kobzari, that traveled from village to village singing poems about Ukraine's past during the 1930s Soviet Union period.

Ukrainian Film Club of Columbia University organized a series of screenings of the film in five US cities with the participation of the film director.
