Proposition 47 supporters rallied outside the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles this morning to gather more votes for the November 4 election day. If passed, Prop 47, the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, will reduce felony charges to misdemeanors for nonviolent drug possession and property crimes. Property crimes such as writing or forging bad checks, petty theft, or receiving stolen property will only be misdemeanors if there is more than $950 in property damage. While supporters argue the proposition will lead to more rehabilitation for low-level offenders, opponents fear releasing dangerous felons.
