Max Schwartz spoke with former Mayor Richard Riordan, who is now an author. Riordan, a Republican, served as mayor from 1993-2001. He now serves as Chairman of the Alliance for College Ready Public Schools - which is a "a successful charter management organization that operates thirteen middle and high schools in Los Angeles," according to his website - among other positions.

Some of the questions were about his book, The Mayor, while other questions focused on politics and the City of Los Angeles. Riordan does not believe tenure belongs in the classroom and he does not give Mayor Garcetti a high grade at the present time.
