Local teacher wins $10,000 award

Veronica Brenes from USC's Early Childhood Program was awarded a $10,000 check from Knowledge Universe on Thursday. Knowledge Universe surprised Brenes with the award, honoring her as she read to students. The award was part of the Knowledge Universe Ealry Childhood Educator Award that is given out 10 times a year. Brenes is the 35th recipient of the award in Knowledge Universe's history. Brenes was awarded for her outstanding teaching as a whole, but her emphasis in the arts is what set her apart from other candidates. Here is a small sample of the surprise ceremony.
