In the run-up to what is unlikely to be a close gubernatorial election, Republican challenger Neel Kashkari visited a charter school in Glendale. Kashkari wants to make the charter school model - whereby schools have greater control over their budget and curriculum - the standard across the school system. Andrés Versage, the Principal of the Alliance Environmental Science and Technology High School has experience in both the public school system and the charter school system. He gives his views on Kashkari's policies. Howard Blume, who has spent several years covering education for the Los Angeles Times, explains that Kashkari's views are not so different from Governor Jerry Brown's, although Brown's overwhelming popularity means that Kashkari is unlikely to have an impact any time soon.
