South LA El Super markets may not have the freshest fare

El Super is getting in hot water with some customers for allegedly selling and distributing various food items that are in poor condition or are past their sell by date.  Isela Gracian, the Vice President of the East Los Angeles Community Corporation says that this and other reasons are why the organization is both protesting and formally filing the complaint.

Access to affordable and good food isn't just an issue for East LA, however, and Mark Valliantos from Occidental College's Urban and Environmental Policy Institute, stresses that a large number of low-income neighborhoods aren't nearly as well stocked as their affluent counterparts.
