The Los Angeles Police Department announced the beginning of National Bullying Prevention Month.

Deputy Chief Terry Hara spoke to an audience of students at Hollywood School House about putting an end to bullying in the LA area.

"Stand up. If somebody's bothering someone, or teasing someone or bullying somebody - to say stop. Stop, and it's not right."

According to The Los Angles Fund for Public Education, 71% of students report bullying as an ongoing problem.

Today's event is the first of many month-long activities sponsored by the LAPD, who hopes to raise awareness and motivate the community to act against bullying.
