Crowds of people gathered at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors weekly meeting Thursday, urging boardmembers to seek oversight from the community. Organized by a grassroots multiracial group -- Coalition to End Sheriff Violence in L.A. Jails, the goal of the event was to urge the Supervisors to approve a proposal to create a Civilian Commission to oversee the Sheriff Department. During the Board meeting, Supervisors Mark Ridley-Thomas and Gloria Molina spoke in favor of the proposal while Zev Yaroslavsky was firm in his opposion. A vote on the propsal is set for next month.
