City Councilman Eric Garcetti and City Controller Wendy Greuel each gained some more high profile backers today in Los Angeles.

Mayoral candidate Garcetti received endorsement from former assemblywoman Gwen Moore and former supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke.

"I believe he has the leadership qualification. And he has been willing to do the right thing and make decisions,” Burke said.

The endorsement event was held at the First AME Church in West Adams and local clergyman came out to support Garcetti.

“I find him to be a man of vision, and Los Angeles needs a mayor that has vision, i found him to be a man of conviction, Los Angeles needs a mayor that stands on his conviction," said Reverend Eric Lee, the president of the Black Community Clergy and Labor Alliance.

Garcetti is now 4 percent ahead of his opponent Wendy Greuel, who is backed by major Latino labor unions, such as United Here Local Eleven.

"We are 100 percent confident that Wendy is gonna win,” said Leigh Shelton, spokeswoman for the hotel and food service workers union, which is made up primarily of Latino workers.

Greuel won them over when she met with the group.

"It became very clear that she's a working woman just like us," Shelton said. "She demonstrated she knows what rights to fight for. She thought about better jobs."

With five more weeks to voting day, both candidates are busy gathering support.
