Pershing square in downtown Los Angeles turned into a dance floor this afternoon. A sea of women and some men came out and danced to break the chain of domestic abuse. The organization One Billion Rising says one out of three women and children will suffer from violence sometime in their lifetime, that equals one billion around the world.
Various organizations catering to women came today to stand up for women all around the world. The crowd in Pershing Square joined hundreds of people around the world staging similar events. During the one-hour rally, a dance group taught the crowd a dance to a very inspirational and upbeat song.
Women from the organization specifically spoke about sexual harassment that occurs on the streets of Los Angeles.
The people dancing today in downtown Los Angeles are using Valentine's Day as a catalyst for a larger conversation about permanent change.
