Bus Tour of Blighted Homes in LA Sparks Conversation

Banks have foreclosed on thousands of homes in South Los Angeles. On Thursday morning, city officials and community members embarked on a bus tour to visit these homes. The homes visited on the tour represented the many properties owned by banks that are failing to follow the city's blight ordinance. The blight ordinance charges banks one thousand dollars a day per blighted home. Neighbors living next to the homes are worried about the drug and gang violence these homes appeal to. Furthermore, many banks are escaping this charge because there are not enough inspectors to enforce the law.
