According to Rankmytattoos.com, Mexican tattoos are a rapidly growing segment of the tattoo community. Pulling from the bold, geometric shapes of Aztec and Incan art as well as urban murals, tattoo artists are creating a unique new style that is a blend of the old and new. Manny Pascual is the owner of L.A. Tattoo. He said his shop is only continuing the rich history of tattooing and body modifications inherent in the Mexican culture. "The tattoo of the style of Mexico, of Mexicans, of Chicanos comes from Aztec culture," Pascual said. "It comes from the Aztecs and the Indians. It comes from long ago, and piercing as well, because the Indians also pierced themselves. Even then, they were painting and piercing their skin." Pascual, who has been a tattoo artist for over 20 years, says he enjoys creating tattoos that are a reflection of his cultural background. "I like to put history, write the story with pictures on people's skin," Pascual said. "And they are representing, where they are now and where they come from more than anything. There has to be pride."
