The City of Los Angeles is getting closer to finding out who its new Chief of Police will be. The Police Commission is sending its top three names to Mayor Villaraigosa today. The rest of us should know the new chief’s identity in a week. We talked with Witness LA creator Celeste Fremon about the job and what kind of chief the city is likely to get. Also, Councilman Richard Alarcon unveiled a new labor ordinance. Wage laborers might get some relief in Los Angeles, after a long history of exploitation and abuse. Finally, we have stories about the cities strategies for tackling its gang problem. We’ll hear from politicians, gangsters, police and civic leaders about what the new strategies that the city is adopting.
