County-wide coalition rallies against education funding cuts Parents and educators gathered at a press conference to express concern over the Governor's proposed $4.8 billion budget cuts to education funding. LAUSD Superintendent David L. Brewer III was on hand to discuss the impact the cuts will have on local schools. Los Angeles County schools will have to face more than $1.3 billion in projected cuts. Clean up LA The City of Los Angeles is teaming up with community organizations to participate in the Great American Cleanup. It is the largest volunteer community improvement program in the country and is sponsored by President Bush. Last year 2.8 million people volunteered nationwide. The LA cleanup is being done in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation so the majority of the cleanup will focus on interstates and other major roadways even though litter and graffiti is a huge problem in poor neighborhoods.
