ARN Live Show - November 19, 2009 UC students will see a 32 percent increase in tuition rates by the fall of next year - much to the anger of students. We'll hear from students who were protesting the University of California Board of Regents approved proposal. Also, Martin Luther King Junior Hospital got a big boost today, UC Board also agreed a plan to partner with L.A. County to reopen the hospital. Hear what Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and local South L.A. residents had to say about new plans for the hospital. In addition, the Don't Dump on L.A. campaign, the city's effort to prevent illegal dumping, got a progress report today. Hear what city officials and residents had to say about the improvements and what else they want to do to make the city a little cleaner.

ARN Live Show - November 17, 2009 Charlie Beck was confirmed as chief of the Los Angeles Police Department today. During city council today, Chief Beck received the praise and learned that the council won't always be quite so easy on him. ARN reporter Ariel Edwards-Levy was at city council for the unanimous vote. Also, ARN reporter Jessica Flores spoke with Orange County Fire Chief Greg McKeown as he raced to the Ortega Fire near San Juan Capistrano. We were also at Cal State LA for demonstrations against imminent cutbacks at the state university system. Neila Jamee has the report.

ARN Live Show - November 10, 2009 One city official is suing another. Or the previous officeholder is suing another previous officeholder. The previous city attorney, Rocky Delgadillo, was the one being sued. He usually represents the city in lawsuits. But since it was the city controller who was suing him, things get kind of complicated. Throw in the fact that there's a new controller and a new city attorney and ARN reporter Richie Duchon will have to sort out the mess for us. Also, school reform in Los Angeles is looking increasingly likely, as parents at 30 troubled LA schools may get the opportunity to decide their schools' futures. But nothing is easy at LAUSD. Dominic Riley has a report from teachers’ union headquarters, where things got a littlee heated today. And finally a feature from Neila Jamee on a dynamic dance school in South Los Angeles.

ARN Live Show - November 3, 2009 Mayor Antonio Villaraigos announced Deputy Police Chief Charlie Beck as his choice to become the next chief of the LAPD. A routine police stop in South L.A. turned violent as the drive drew a gun and fired shots at officers. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors offered a $10,000 reward in the shooting death of a 16-year-old Long Beach high school student last Friday. We have a roundup of the big election stories on this election day. Legislators are scrambling to come with a package of bills aimed to reform California's water infrastructure. A wildfire ignited near the 60 freeway in Diamond Bar Tuesday afternoon. A forum at Manual Arts High School discussed the close links between mental health and high school drop-out rates. Police Chief Charlie Beck gave an emotional speech after Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced Beck as his choice to lead the LAPD after Chief Bill Bratton resigned Saturday. We have reaction to Beck's selection from some leaders and activists in the South L.A. community. Dean of South Africa's Rhodes University journalism school talks about what it means for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held in South Africa and how journalists should cover the story. And a new report about stress levels in L.A. says fewer people are as worried about money as they were in 2008, but more people are unhappy with their jobs.

Wage laborers might get some relief in Los Angeles, after a long history of exploitation and abuse. Finally, we have stories about the cities strategies for tackling its gang problem. Also, before dawn today, more than 1,100 law enforcement officials participated in a crackdown against the Rolling 40s gang. Hear what local law enforcement has to say about the raid. Also, listen to the reaction of South L.A. residents about gang violence and prevention. ACORN has recently faced a series of scandals that has brought high-profile negative attention to the community organizing group and threatened some of its funding. Hear what local groups who have benefited from ACORN's advocacy for low-income families have to say.
